The selection of suitable lamps is considered to be one of the most difficult decisions that must be taken in running your own tanning business. We can guide you, showing you what aspects are worth considering.

Exceptional… by Wolff System

There is no industry standard for determining UVB%, although many companies still use this parameter to promote their lamps. This is a common method of “rating” tanning lamps, but as a ratio it is insufficient in evaluating the tanning power or effectiveness of a given lamp. Essentially, it is not an accurate measure of true performance.

Above there is a simple chart showing two lamps. Both deliver the same amount of UVB, but greatly different amounts of UVA.

If we only consider the UVB% values, Lamp 1 with its higher UVB/UVA ratio could be considered to be the stronger, more effective lamp. However, this is not true, as Lamp 2 has a lower UVB ratio because it delivers more UVA.

An effective tanning lamp must have a well-balanced spectrum of UV light, supplying both UVA and UVB in the required amounts to achieve the desired effect. Adding more UVB typically creates a more “reddening” lamp, rather than a better “tanning” lamp.

Every tanning lamp needs just enough UVB to stimulate the production of melanin, and plenty of UVA to oxidise it and turn it brown. When using lamps generating more UVB it is recommended that the exposure time should be quite short, as reddening of the skin is more likely.

Through extensive research, Wolff System has engineered unique phosphor blends to produce high-quality tanning lamps that are trustworthy, profitable for professional salons and capable of delivering outstanding tanning effects. Enjoy less of the UVA rays responsible for photo-aging, and make tanning safer for the skin.

Invest in technology

Price is usually the most important factor when making the purchasing decision for lamps. It is easy to believe that a low price means savings, but that is not always the case. We can show you why this is not as obvious as it appears. Many lamps cost less because they are made of cheaper phosphors, which results in a shorter service life for the lamp.

Using higher quality phosphors leads to a longer service life as well as better tanning performance. Over the lifetime of a higher quality lamp, a salon will achieve more sessions and the tanning results will be better. While purchasing a high-quality lamp means you pay more initially, in the long run you save. Impossible? Check out our comparison and see which choice is more profitable for you.

Red Light Power Technology by Wolff System

Red Light Power (RLP) technology used by Wolff System not only provides a unique effect of tanning, but also rejuvenates and conditions the skin. Thanks to the combination of UV rays and red collagen light, you are tanning and supporting the regeneration of your skin at the same time.

It is worth noting that a tan achieved under the influence of UV lamps with RLP technology is not only more intense but also long lasting.

When the red collagen light reaches the deep layers of the skin, it promotes regeneration of damaged tissues and causes thermogenesis, which accelerates blood microcirculation.

Thanks to these properties it not only causes an anti-aging effect but generally improves the overall appearance and condition of the skin, relaxing it and stimulating the production of endorphins.

Red Light Power technology does not block vitamin D3 synthesis in the body, since the performance of UV radiation is still sufficient to stimulate the process.

RLP is an innovative technology that makes tanning a totally new experience. What does this mean for you? Now you will not only get a beautiful , golden skin tone, but  you will also help in the regeneration and functioning of the whole body. And all of this in a single tanning session!

What is what?

UVA

is radiation in the 315-400 nm wavelength range. It is primarily responsible for what is known as an “immediate tan”, since in passing through the skin it darkens the pigment that is present there. An immediate tan is visible straight after the tanning session. While talking about tanning lamps, the UVA ratio is expressed in either UVA Flux (in mW) or UVA Irradiance (W/m2), and these values are not comparable.

UVB

is radiation in the 280-315 nm wavelength range. It is responsible for the actual tan, also known as “delayed pigmentation”. UVB radiation stimulates the melanogenesis process, which is the formation of new pigment in the skin, and therefore the results will be noticed later. UVB also influences the synthesis of vitamin D in the body. While talking about the lamps, UVB radiation is most often identified with the UVB/UVA ratio, expressed as a percentage. The percentage defines only the ratio of UVA to UVB radiation, and does not reflect the actual value of UVB or the efficiency of the lamp itself.

Erythemal Irradiance

is a value which indicates the ability of light to cause sunburn (for UVA, UVB and their combinations). It is expressed in W/m2, and its determination includes the fact that sensitivity to sunburn is individual and depends on several factors. One of the most important of these is the type and dose of radiation. Even a small amount of UVC rays can cause burns, the same as the average dose of UVB radiation or a high dose of UVA.

Useful life

is the length of time until the product is no longer considered effective. Most lamp manufacturers determine their lifetime, which is guaranteed, as effective working time. In most cases, lifetime is the time until the point when the lamp has lost approx. 20-30% of its rated power. The time given by the manufacturers assumes that the lamp is used under optimal conditions. Please note that it is an estimated value, and does not exclude individual deviations that may occur due to a number of factors, including the temperature in the device, ventilation efficiency, etc.
